Physics 115C - Fall 2002

Final - Thu. Dec. 12, 8:00am, 1160 Phelps

We meet Tuesday and Thursday in 1160 Phelps, 9:30-10:45am. The first class is Thursday, Sept. 26. The TA will teach a section on Friday from noon to 12:50 in 1015 Broida Hall.

The lecturer is Harry Nelson, and the TA is Lawrence Lin. Prof. Nelson's office hours are currently Wed. 10am-noon and by appointment. Lawrence Lin's are currently Monday 10-11, Tu 12:30-1:30pm, and Wed. 9-10am, in the PLC.

This is the third quarter of a core course on Quantum Mechanics. The textbook is the same as that used in 115A and 115B: `Principles of Quantum Mechanics' by R. Shankar. We will cover material from Chapters 12 through 19 of Shankar. The principal planned topics include the solution of the radial Schrodinger equation in three dimensions, spin, addition of angular momentum, a variety of numerical techniques, and scattering theory.

One midterm is planned on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Homework is assigned on Thursday, due the next Thursday in class. Homework turned in after class on Thursday will have 10% of the score removed; homework turned in on Friday by 5pm will have 20% of the score removed; homework turned in any time after that will have 50% of the score removed. You may work with others on working out the problems, but you must write up solutions independently of one another.

We've set the grading formula to be 40% Final, 30% Midterm, and 30% Problems.
