Mathematica Basics

Introduction

The days when it was necessary to forge every numerical problem you encountered in an advanced mathematics course into FORTRAN or Pascal source code are fast fading, (thankfully.) Inevitably, the contemporary use of the computer in analyzing problems involves the use of a computer algebra system of some flavor. You may have heard of several of them: Mathematica, Maple, MathCAD, HiQ and MATLAB all come to mind. In these introductory laboratories our task is to learn enough about the particular system called Mathematica so that you can use it proficiently for a variety of mathematical, scientific, and engineering applications.
