Minutes of the May 12, 2005 US ROD meeting

Follow up on action items and new action items

  1. Scripts to compare MR with module data:
    Steve has it working.
Still fine-tuning of cuts needed. Steve will also look at FNAL data.

  2. Opens at FNAL can be seen OK, need to re-check UCSB
UCSB: OK in warm, in cold they have same noise as normal channels.

  3. UCSB: Sort out problem with bad lemo.
Only affects DS rod, so not terribly urgent, but should be followed up.
Need a spare. Mail from Jean Paul de Wolf: not eager to send spare, Puneeth to follow up.
FNA: has spares. Yuri to check with Ryan.

  4. UCSB: DS rod bad noise. But using modules that went through severe cycles.
Need to put new modules on it and retest.
On back-burner until modules become available.
In the meantime take a couple of these modules off and see what they look like on ARCS.
    Not yet.

  5. UCSB: Tests of rod 178 (header-error rod from FNAL) continue. Swap
module that gives errors to try to correlate with either rod or module.
Put this on back-burner now that production has started.

  6. Lt SW bug that causes bad pulse shape. Valeri on it.
    No news

  7. FNAL: Tested bunch of new HPK rods in SR. Two out of six have broken or shorted
termistor. Strange because Lenny says that these are chcked on rod frame.
Possibilities: bad check on rod frame, or bad connection through flat cable, or bad DCU on hybrid.
    Check module fast-test
    Probe with multimeter
    No news

  8. UCSB needs to to implement connectivity test in SR.
    Done.

  9. New action item:
Wim request inclusion of PIA reset in scenario after connectivity test.

  10. New action item:
FNAL: some bad DCU voltrages on SR, but not on MR. Needs fix.

  11. New action item:
FNAL sees problem in SR GUI connecting to DB.
    Jim to fix.

General

News from today's board meeting from Joe: CERN has duplicated I2C errors.
CERN investigating.

While I2C errors are being investigated, take an opportunity to
tie up loose ends, e.g., DefectAnalyzier, procedures, etc.

Getting experience on DS and SS4 rods is moving up the priority list.

UCSB

Out of 20 rods built, 6 tested in MR. Then ran out of fluid.
One new pinhole. Was not there in SR.
Steps taken to move chiller closer to freezer, since in the
past this showed less fluid loss. But fluid loss not understood.

Steve making progress on defect tagging, see item 1 above.

Did not send any rods to CERN

Rod production has been stopped.

FNAL

12 rods built. Six went through MR. Then ran out of fluid.
No new pinholes.
Seems like fluid loss is becoming a problem....

Had broken HV connector on MR system. Perhaps not as
robust as should be.

Changed ramp to 5V/sec as per Tony's suggestion.
Would like to understand why spec is there.
Module people are using faster ramp.

Header errors: stil see them occasionally,
but seem different than before.
Wim: not clear whether HW or because of bad parameter tuning.
Needs more investigation.

I2C errors seem to be uncorrelated with temperature.
