Minutes of the Jan 27, 2005 US ROD meeting ========================================== Susanne made presentation on tail problem. See http://hep.ucsb.edu/people/kyre/stiff-tail-problem.ppt Bottom line: can improve by "kinking" the tail further, mild worry about breaking traces with hard kinks, Callahan to build special tool. Follow up on action items from last week's workshop: 1. Fermilab to change grounding and power distribution to be like UCSB. Does it make the I2C errors go away? Yuri: changes made. Also running new software version from Wim. Much more stable. Running for 24 hours with 8 rods, no problem. GREAT NEWS. Yuri thinks that grounding did the trick... 2. UCSB: can we improve humidity to go to lower T in multirod? Air dryer is new, so it should have been OK. Switched lines. Don't know if it improves yet. 3. CalProfile at UCSB too slow. Jim to try to remove sleep statement, also try local X. Didn't try yet. However, Jim notices that ARCS uses 10 points for CalProfile, Lt 400. WHY? Can speed up by using fewer points (verified). Jim will also take sleep out, see what happens. 4. Want to read all DCU out, put in root file. Wim to do in V24. No news 5. Check all rod monitoring that goes in DCU. Ryan to figure out and write up, part of single rod procedure. Not yet 6. Standalone redundancy ring check --> Wim, Frederic will provide, Puneeth to follow up No news 7. Compare plots from Ryan's macro and ARC data. Any surprises? Jim: on ARC, sensor opens lower noise, on rods higher noise. This is because of pickup. Will make flagging difficult. Also, CalProfile first few channels on 1st and 3rd chip much reduced height. See elog http://boson.physics.ucsb.edu:8080/mrt/13 attachment 3 vs attachment 4. Also, rise time looks strange. Factor of two difference in scale, plus coarse quantization. See elog http://boson.physics.ucsb.edu:8080/mrt/13 attachment 5 vs attachment 6 8. Defect analyzer crashing, Puneeth to follow up with Valeri, Lionel. Contact has been made. Records are not being saved with right names. No big deal, can be fixed in scenario file. But more problems, crashes reproduced. Still under investigation. 9. Jim to start talking to JT about scripts for ARC/ROD comparison Not yet Other news --------- UCSB Multirod running stable. Ryan: problems with installation of V23 in FNAL single-rod. Crashes making a303 and a1303 drivers. Jim says could be misplaced header file. UCSB single-rod not working. Not finding frames. Was working, then broken after not running for a while, then Ryan fixed it by reseating FEC-TSC cable, now bad again. ????? Upcoming Tracker Week Talks --------------------------- Joe wants a couple of summary slides by Monday. Claudio to provide. Will circulate over week-end (hopefully) Duccio wants talk on Wednesday at dedicated rod meeting. Swavek or Lenny will do it. Addition 1: from Lenny ---------------------- If I understood Yuri correctly, Wim forgot to include the CAEN driver with the version 23 release so : The upgrade to v23 on the single rod system was probably premature since this has (temporarily) prevented the full use of the working version, in spite of what was suggested at the workshop. Addition 2: from Yuri --------------------- I also mentioned at the meeting that caen driver can be added after installation. I believe that this can be easily done and already asked Wim to take care of it for the MRT system and write down the instructions. Apart from caen the temperature set is not functioning in the current v_23 that Wim installed. This I also mentioned to him. Ricardo faced these issues since v_20 and wrote instructions on how to add slow control functionality to the LtStruct. I tried these instructions but with current version it did not worked. Apparently something else is missing. I was aware of this issue and asked Wim to fix slow control installation some time ago. Hopefully this time it will be done properly.
