Project Scientist

The High Energy Physics Group at UC Santa Barbara (http://hep.ucsb.edu) is seeking an outstanding electrical engineer/scientist to lead UCSB's electronics development effort for upgrades to the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.  Projects will focus on electronics for data acquisition and detector controls and monitoring, especially in connection with the CMS silicon tracker system.  The UCSB High Energy group is playing a major role in the CMS experiment and has a long history of involvement in silicon tracking systems and other detectors for high energy physics experiments.  The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, as well as extensive experience in electronics development in particle or nuclear physics experiments.  Applicants should have proven leadership and organizational ability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to successfully supervise and mentor graduate students and postdocs.  Familiarity with silicon detector systems, ASIC design, high-speed front-end electronics, low-level signal processing, and project management in large scientific projects are highly desirable.

The appointment may be made at the assistant, associate, or project scientist level, depending on the qualifications of the applicant.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with University of California policy.

Curricula vitae received before November 1, 2007 will be given full consideration.  Position effective January 1, 2008.
